I am an Auntie!

Yes, most of you know that I am an Auntie to the adorable Austin and soon to be cutie of pie I call ‘Small fry!’

I am also an Auntie to a beautiful Grade K student from my village. She goes to the school I work with and from the first day I started there this year, she has referred to me as Auntie! It is the cutest when across the play ground she will yell “Auntie” and how she does not want me to leave her after break time! She is just sweet as a button and makes my school days all that more enjoyable, especially as we walk hand in hand while I take her to her ‘Next Auntie’s Home’

She is the cutie in the green at Creole Day at school!

Little Amazings

-- Googled 'Awesome' and this is what I found --

Generally speaking, individuals forget to recognize and appreciate the small wonders of the world. There is a website called 1000 Awesomes and it is just a list of all those Little Awesomes that make life all that better. I was listening to a presentation by the founder of 1000 Awesomes and he inspired to write my ‘Little Amazings’ list. During his presentation he mentioned how he loves to hang out with 3 years because they are seeing and discovering the world for the first time. Everything and event is so fresh to their eyes and as we grow up, events get stale. We must remember to take time to enjoy and soak in the ‘Little Amazings!’

Here are a few of mine! I would love for any/all of you to leave your ‘Little Amazings’ as my comments!

My 5 year old neighbor who greets me every time she sees me with this HUGE and excited Hello! Similar to how a best friend/family would greet you after not seeing you for months!
The personalities of the ocean and the many colors of blue it shines
Having a friend wait with me so I did not have to wait in the dark by myself for my ride
The combination of the sound of rain and the palm trees swaying with the wind
Sundays in Dominica
Drinking endless cups of tea
Peeled over in the a fit of laughter
Rainbows
Sunsets
An evening nap after work
Hugs from little ones you do not know
Having people call your name on the street and greet you with a smile
Random text messages from bestest
Cooking/Eating with Friends
Drinking Coffee in my favorite chair while watching the sea
Not having to wait long in line or get cut in front of at the Grocery Store
Live Music
Movies that make you cry
Letters from Jennifer

Life is Simply Beautiful

The other morning I was at a friend of mines house drinking some coffee. He is building a gorgeous house on top of the mountain we already live on. It has a beautiful view of the mountains and the Caribbean Sea. While we were sitting drinking our coffee it started to rain but just as it stopped, I looked out to the sea to only be greeted by a beautiful rainbow that started in the valley and continued into the sky! It brought simply joy to my heart I just had to take a picture of it! It has been long since I have seen a rainbow, especially with such a beautiful background!

Enjoy the little moments because sometimes that is all we have!

National Day of Prayer!

-My host mom and myself and church-

October 10, 2010 was national day of prayer, a day for everyone to show gratitude for everything that Dominica is blessed with. During the church service everyone wears their National wear and the church is decorated with national fabrics and more flowers then usually! Also, more of the mass id one in the Creole (the local language) compared to normal church services which is done in English!

-Lovely ladies at church showing off their traditional wear!-

-Dayna (Other PCV who came a year after me), OUR Host Mom, and myself-

I do love National Day of Prayer because the church is extra bright with the individuals in their traditional wear and it just has a good feeling!

-My landlord's daughter and myself outside of my house before she headed to church-

Dominica is FAMOUS!

I do not have a TV at my home which I am fine with because I am not a big fan of TV anyways! I am never up to date on TV shows, who is dating who, what is going on in the world! I just live in my little island world and enjoy it!

I got wind that they were filming a show in Dominica and actually met one of the guys that is working for it during the summer! Then all of sudden I see on all of the PCV facebook pages this link to 'Man, Woman, Wild!' I do not know much about the show but they did an episode in Dominica! Where they were placed in the middle of the rain forest and expected to get out! Showed how they survived, what they ate, how they built their beds, ect! Honestly, I found the whole thing very funny and dramatic because I live on the island and know better but it is still worth a watch!

If you are interested of seeing more about the Natural Isle of Dominica check out this link (make sure to watch all three videos to see the whole episode!)
